About Meryl

Artist Statement
I am moved by the effects of light, color and atmosphere, and I strive to translate these into paint. The highest compliments I have received are about how my paintings have made someone feel – whether calm, serene, happy, or peaceful. Creating something that can uplift someone’s mood or evoke emotion seems like a worthy pursuit.
Bio
I took up painting seriously after moving to Columbia County, where the lush landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rural subject matter are a constant attraction. Although I started out painting in transparent watercolor (a medium I enjoy for its luminous quality), I have recently transitioned to opaque media – primarily oil paint – for most of my work in studio.
I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Fine Arts from The University of Michigan, and a Masters’s degree in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University. I also studied studio art at several different art schools and centers: The Art Students League of New York, California College of the Arts, Winslow Art Center, and Berkshire Art Center.
My work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast, including at juried shows as well as member and society shows. I am a member of the Northeast Watercolor Society, the Impressionist Society of America, and the Spencertown Academy Arts Center (where I am also a Curator of Art).
